What a humanoid robot can do in your warehouse or plant today

A humanoid robot in 2026 can reliably carry totes, boxes, parts and carts between fixed points in a clean indoor environment, but it cannot yet assemble things, lift heavy loads or work outdoors.

Start with what the machine actually is

Strip away the demo videos and a humanoid robot in 2026 is this: a machine on two legs with two arms and two hands, that can carry somewhere between fifteen and twenty-five kilos depending on the make, walks at about the speed of a person, sees through cameras, and runs for two to four hours before it needs to charge. It learns a task by being shown it, and it gets better at that task the more it does it.

That is a genuinely new kind of machine, and it is also a machine with clear limits. Both matter when you decide where to put one.

What it does well today

  • Moving totes and boxes. Off a conveyor, onto a rack. Off a mobile robot, onto a conveyor. This is the job most humanoids on the public record are doing.
  • Loading and unloading machines. Take a part from a bin, put it in a fixture, take it out when the machine is done.
  • Kitting. Walk to several bins, collect the parts for one assembly, carry the kit to the line.
  • Feeding a sorter. Pick parcels one at a time from a pile and place them on a belt.
  • Pushing carts and dollies from one place to another on the floor.

What it is close to doing

  • Picking individual items from mixed bins. Works when the range of items is limited; not yet across a whole catalogue.
  • Building and breaking down pallets, at a modest pace and within the weight limit.
  • Unloading trucks and containers when the boxes are all the same.
  • Checking quality with its cameras while it handles things.

What it cannot do yet

  • Assembly. Fitting, fastening, wiring, anything that needs fine finger work.
  • Heavy lifting. Anything above its weight class, or awkward loads that two people would carry.
  • Outdoor work. Uneven ground, rain, a yard.
  • Anything involving people. Serving customers, supervising, making a call about a colleague.
  • A full shift without a break. It has to charge, so the schedule has to allow for that or you need more than one unit.

What to expect from the first one

It will be slower than your people at first. That is normal. A robot on a new task starts well below the human rate and climbs over the first weeks as the task and the surroundings are tuned. Uptime depends as much on your site as on the machine: whether there is always work waiting, whether the floor stays clear, whether charging fits the shift.

So start with one task, on one shift pattern, and measure the rate and the uptime against a baseline you agreed before the robot arrived. That is how we set up every pilot, and it is the only way to know whether the second robot is a good idea.
